5 Simple Tricks to Hide Tired Eyes

Monday, February 1, 2021

While the recommended eight hours of sleep is something we all wish we could enjoy nightly, busy lifestyles and responsibilities keep us further and further away from our beds. If that's not tiring enough, new year schedules are in full swing and most of us may be skipping out on much need rest. As a result, tired eyes are an inevitability we cannot avoid. Thankfully, clever cosmetic tricks and effective skincare secrets help cheat brighter and restful eyes in a pinch. Grab a coffee, settle in and read on for five simple tricks to hide tired eyes.

1. If you've had a long night, chances are your eyes are in need of some serious depuffing the next morning. The best way to rid this unwanted reaction and boost circulation around the sensitive under eye area is using proper facial tools. Angela Caglia's Rosebud Eye Treatment features two expertly shaped orbs which nestle perfectly in the under eye space and are a fool-proof solution to reversing these undesirable issues. To use these luxurious tools, begin by placing them in the inner under eye area and gently pressing, continue by softly gliding outwards along the orbital bone towards the temples. To maximize the depuffing quality of these orbs, set them in the fridge overnight as their rose quartz composition hold cool temperatures well. The chilled orbs will deliver an incredibly soothing cooling response which will expedite the process of diminishing puffiness. To further amplify the effects of these impressive tools, apply a thin layer of Kiehl's Powerful-Strength Line-Reducing & Dark Circle-Diminishing Vitamin C Eye Serum along the under eye, outer eye and brow bone area. This potent triple-peptide, vitamin-C rich serum will not only help with darkness but will refine texture and soften lines.

2. After testing an array of under eye products, I found one amazing product that both brightens and lifts the under-eye area in a matter of minutes. Peter Thomas Roth's 24k Gold Pure Luxury Lift & Firm Hydra-Gel Eye Patches are packed with hydrolyzed collagen and caffeine which deliver visible brightening results. These little wonders are as luxurious as they are effective and offer a firm, hydrated and lifted appearance after one ten minute use. Mimicking the look of a well-rested and youthful look, these patches are my favorite secret to hide facial exhaustion.

3. While some assume packing on loads of concealer may mask dark circles and fatigue, it may cause a greater problem of unsightly heavy application and look worse. The trick is to use a good high-coverage concealer and strategically apply with a light hand. My preferred pick is Kevyn Aucoin's The Sensual Skin Enhancer Concealer, a celebrity makeup artist favorite, is a creamy, pigmented multipurpose product that can improve the look of skin by correcting, covering and highlighting. To correct darkness and brighten the under eye, use a flat concearler brush to swipe a bit of product to the back of the hand to warm slightly. With the same brush apply a light swipe of product to the hollows and trouble spots of the under eye area, followed by gently buffing the product with a fluffy concealer brush. Due to its concentrated, highly pigmented consistency, a small amount of product is enough for adequate coverage.

4. When placed correctly, pale colored highlighters (powder, cream or liquid) work beautifully to open up the eye and offer a shimmery pop. Using a fool-proof product like Charlotte Tilbury's Beauty Highlighter Wand on the tear duct and brow bone enhances these targeted points, giving a more awake, eye-opening effect. I find using a small flat precision shadow brush helps apply this product neatly in these smaller areas.

Another super easy eye-opening trick includes two items you may already have in your cosmetic collection: a nude-colored eyeliner and soft brown eye shadow. To create this simple refreshed eye look, apply the light-toned liner to the waterline and frame the liner by applying the brown shadow tightly along the lower lash line with an angled liner brush. Finish with a few coats of your favorite mascara on both the top and bottom lashes.
Tip: Avoid using white liner in the waterline as that can look too harsh

5. Getting a head start on treating fatigued eyes on night's sleep will be scarce is the perfect skincare cheat you'll thank yourself for in the morning. Reaching for an overnight mask that features nourishing qualities and brightening agents before an evening slumber helps revitalize the delicate eye area while you sleep. A favorite I keep returning to is Clarins Hydra-Essentiel Moisturizing Reviving Eye Mask, a cream-gel formula that stays put during the night and delivers a a much-needed soothing dose of hydration to my sometimes parched under eyes. The morning after garners a radiant and more restful appearance and it's smoothing benefits makes makeup application a dream.
