JINsoon x Suzie Kondi

Say goodbye to the neon tones of summer and try your hand at these minimalistic nail art looks this autumn. Using the trendy JinSoon x Suzie Kondi Collection, illustrious nail artist Jin Soon Choi has imagined up four ultra-chic nail art looks perfect for the fall season ahead. Get settled in and let's dive right into these looks.

PREP
Prior to starting any nail design, be sure to properly prep the nails. For a less harsh option, choose an acetone-free remover to clear away an remnants of previous polish, debris and oils. Use a nourishing cuticle oil and gently push back with a cuticle tool of your choice. Follow by shaping nails to your desire and layering on a single coat of JINsoon Power Coat evenly on each nail.

TWO TONE CHEVRON FRENCH TIP
A fresh take on a classic design, Jin Soon modernized a traditional French tip with contrasting shades and on-trend hues. "I think using two different pops of color on each hand makes this look modern and fun," says Choi.

Step 1. Begin this two-toned design with the lighter shade, Piedra. Swipe the nail polish brush in a diagonal line from one nail wall towards the center of the free edge.
Step 2. Follow by picking up the darker polish (Palma or Lavanda), and repeating Step 1 on the opposite nail wall. The darker shade of choice is to overlap the lighter shade and neatly meet in the center.
Step 3. To avoid smudging, allow the polish design to dry for 1-2 minutes.
Step 4. Once dry, apply a complete layer of JINsoon HyperGloss to each nail to achieve a gel-like finish.

COLOR POP POLKA DOT
Often presented in a black and white combination, Jin Soon has added a whimsical touch to this elegant pattern by using a fresh color way.

Step 1: Prior to creating this cheerful nail art, place a dollop of Palma and Piedra to a nail pallet or piece of foil.
Step 2: Using a dotting nail tool, dip into the first shade (Palma) and create a free-handed, spaced dot pattern on the nail.
Step 3: For a unique look, choose a dotting tool in different sizes and pick up the next shade (Piedra), continue applying dots to the spaced areas on the nail.
Step 4: Allow 1-2 minutes for the design to dry and set.
Step 5: Finish the look with a coat of JINsoon HyperGloss top coat.

DOUBLE FRENCH
An elegant interpretation of the standard French tip, Jin layered two polishes for a more complex look that appears modern and sleek.

For this nail look, you'll need a precision nail art brush. If you don't have one, a tiny paint or makeup brush will work well too.

Step 1: To start this design, begin by picking up Palma on the tiny brush and draw a thin line along the free edge of the nail.
Step 2: With the same brush, use Lavanda and draw a thin line below the one you've just created with the previous polish.
Step 3: Whilst drying, use a clean cotton bud soaked in remover and clean up the edges.
Step 4: Once dry, give the nails a glossy, chip-resistant finish with a fortified layer of JINsoon Top Gloss.

NEGATIVE SPACE SWIRL
An ultra-cool nail look, this negative space design will offer a fun way to wear a sophisticated shade in an eye-catching minimalistic shape.

Step 1: Use a tiny nail art brush and saturate with your preferred polish (Piedra). Draw a free-handed swirl lined shape along the nail, stretching from the bottom to top of nail.
Step 2: Once the shape is achieved, use the same polish and fill in the nail from the line to the neighboring nail wall. Be sure to leave a bare space on the opposite side (negative space).
Step 3: Use a polish remover saturated cotton bud to clean up the design and allow to dry for 1-2 minutes.
Step 4: For a glossy, chip-resistant finish, layer nails with an even coat of JINsoon Top Gloss.

Top Moisturizing Solutions for Dry Hands

Monday, February 22, 2021

With our new ultra-careful reality encouraging frequent hand washing and sanitizing, it's no surprise that the condition of our hands is starting to suffer. While promoting safety and keeping harmful germs at bay, hand cleansing practices are depriving our hands and cuticles of moisture and leaving them in a vulnerable heath. Coupling this with bitterly frigid temperatures creates a detrimental situation that screams for repair and restoration. Reviving dry, battered hands doesn't require a handful of steps or products, but rather a succinct strategy that should be consistently followed.

SKIN QUENCHING CREAM
Dry hands not only look rough but feel uncomfortable as cracking and small cuts become more common in weak, moistureless skin. The easiest, fool-proof way to tackle dry hands instantly is a creamy, dreamy, ultra-moisturizing hand cream. While a wealth of small, bag-friendly hand creams line store shelves, this is the time to get smart with your choice and opt for one with impactful ingredients. Skylar Renewing Hand Cream, is formulated with hyaluronic acid (HA), the superstar skin-plumping ingredient which amplifies hydration. Beneficial anti-aging peptides, which work beautifully with HA, help this product work overtime to protect hands while healing agents like vitamin E an coconut oil provide lasting hydration and restore elasticity. Best of all, this non-greasy concoction's subtle scent will keep you in an island state of mind in our winter reality.

PROTECTIVE MASKING
To maximize on hydration, seek a mask treatment providing a 360-degree healing approach. Overall hand health is vital as tricky areas like cuticles and  delicate skin between fingers is often overlooked. Nourishing masks like Patchology Perfect Ten Self-Warming Hand and Cuticle Mask uniquely charges up by natural body heat and quickly gets to work on dry, suffering areas. This at-home, 10-min glove mask mimics a luxurious spa-like experience while remedying overly dry hands. A rose and coconut oil blend soothes and softens with macadamia nut oil protecting against further damage. This comprehensive buttery soft solution is the perfect hand reviving treatment to use weekly.

GO NATURAL
When giving attention to the hands, its important to highlight the cuticles. With over-sanitizing stripping the skin of moisture, the cuticles become overwhelmed and dry out to the point of harsh, painful cracking. Now is the time to embrace natural nails with an enhanced focus on cuticle health and strong natural nails. Bare Hands The Dry Gloss Manicure takes a luxe approach to maintaining natural nails by concentrating on improving cuticles with a protective oil and a unique nail tool  which helps achieve a glossy nail texture. Nourished, natural nails not only gives nail beds a break from high-maintenance polish but bolsters long-term healing. This simple yet effective set features a chic, fortified buffing plate that unites nail keratin resulting in an impressive week-long, high gloss finish. Top off this therapeutic nail treatment by drenching cuticles in a potent, comforting oil consisting of various fruit and essential oils.

Nails Inc. Freshly Juiced Duo Review

Polish - Not From Concentrate

If you've browsed social media or skimmed beauty news lately you may have noticed Nails Inc. really knocking it out of the park with their recent nail varnish releases. From daring neons to cool tone-altering polishes, and crystal-inspired sets, Nails Inc. is really injecting a major dose of excitement and fun into traditional polish usage. With summer in full swing, I'm certainly in the market for some punchy, poppy hues and was instantly drawn to the Freshly Juiced Duo, one of the brand's newest polish launches.

These yummy Vitamin C-infused, fruit-inspired polishes are beautifully pigmented and offer a rich wash of streak-free color with two easy coats. With such intense shades, I find a few layers are needed to achieve the color present in the bottle. Luckily, that wasn't the case with both of these polishes, While the colors alone are enough of an attraction, these warm weather shades are scented with the exact yummy fruits by which they were inspired.

NOT FROM CONCENTRATE
This beautiful shade is a true orange tone which doesn't fade or turn yellow with extended wear. Additionally, it features the same impressive lasting quality of standard Nails Inc. polishes and doesn't chip or crack along the tips of the nails. The scent of this was more a creamsicle orange rather than a punchy orange and wafted up as I was painting my nails. A welcomed change from the familiar chemical smell I'm used to, this subtle fruity scent lasted well after a layer of top coat and several hand washes.

LOOKING SUPER JUICY
This sweet poppy pink polish indeed reminded me of the summery fruit after which it was created However, the scent of this polish was nothing like the watermelons I imaged. Unlike the sister shade in this set, the fruity scent was not as present or pleasant. It smelled of classic nail polish with a hint of something else. While the color was beautifully pigmented and displayed the same successful wear as the orange shade, the scent was certainly lacking.

With such a lovely wear and beautiful color payoff, I'd repurchase this set once I run out. As a major fan of both these shades, I predict I'll be getting lots of wear out of them this summer season.

National Nail Polish Day with JINsoon

Monday, June 1, 2020

A sweet, sunny summer yellow
JINsoon Nail Lacquer in Tweety

As the weather warms up, I feel the need to lighten up my manicure shades and opt for brighter, more poppy polishes. What better way to celebrate a fresh, summer-inspired manicure than on National Nail Polish Day. A full day reserved for the simple pleasure that is nail polish, National Nail Polish Day was a celebratory day founded in 2017 by Essie, a popular polish brand loved by both professionals and nail enthusiasts alike.

During the spring and summer seasons, I tend to lean towards lively pink shades and thought it was time to venture outside of my manicure comfort zone. Now is the time to boldly sport some new (to my hands) tones like soft yellows and flattering oranges. To get started, I turned to nail authority Jin Soon Choi for some summer nail inspiration and was welcomed by her beautiful, richly-hued polish collection which features vibrant colors perfect for any season.

When creating her own lacquer range, Jin Soon, a professional nail powerhouse, wanted her brand to exemplify the essence of an exceptional polish line. One that was equally eco-friendly, toxin-free (10-free) and formulated with high-performance elements which ensure a lasting wear with a lustrous finish. The result is a vastly-colored collection of vegan-friendly, chip-resistant, and chemical-free lacquer that sets beautifully on nails.

JINsoon Hope | JINsoon Pop Orange

Best of all, Jin Soon's unique polish formulation features a UV filter which protects the polish from frustrated fading or yellowing of the actual color. Nothing upsets more than a fresh manicure chipping quickly or fading in color. Thankfully, with these chic nail lacquers, I get a lasting, shiny application which isn't prone to the usual chipping or peeling I experiences at the tips with usual polish.

Excitingly, Jin Soon's nail range has grown beyond their award-winning vivid array of shades. From intricate nail art decals to beneficial nail tools, Jin Soon is committed to evolving her nail brand and continuing to offer the best in every aspect of nail care. Most recently, she's launched her HyperCare collection which concentrates on not only speeding up the polish process in a professional fashion but provides care for the nail itself through HyperRepair, a unique, double-patented nail product which works towards restoring the nail to a healthy state.

Whether your natural nails need a rest from polish or you're looking to provide additional nourishment to your nails, the vitamin-heavy and AHA-infused HyperRepair treatment is a one which tackles the nails in an effective three-sided approach - hydrate, nourish and strengthen. A unique revival product that is recommended to be used on its own, HyperRepair is a quick remedy to replenish stressed and over-polished nails.

Côte Classic Set

With all of us limited to our homes during this uncertain and tricky time, simple beauty treatments, like manicures, can give us a sense of normalcy and relief from the added stress. Manicures are an ideal at-home beauty task as it requires a few tools and polishes you may already have in your beauty arsenals.

For some, an at-home manicure may seem like an intimidating effort better left to the professionals. Luckily, Mary Lennon and Leah Yari, the founders of clean polish brand côte, have shared their top tips on achieving the perfect nails right from your own home. Mary and Leah's expert, no-fuss tricks  will soon have any nail novice polishing their tips like a true professional.

Côte founders Mary Lennon and Leah Yari

Grab your favorite bottle of polish and read on to get your nails in tip-top shape:

Prime Space
1. To create your own at home spa oasis, Mary and Leah encourage finding a tidy, airy space where you can neatly set your nail tools and items. This is not a time to rush but rather a moment to enjoy a bit of personal pampering. It's all about recreating a clean and spa-like setting in your unique space.

Clean Nails
2. For a proper professional polish application, clean nails are must. Use a cotton ball or round and remove any bits of old polish or dirt. They recommend a non-acetone remover as it is less harsh on natural nail. To ensure a completely clean nail plate, "follow up with a quick wipe of rubbing alcohol," says Mary and Leah.

Prime Before Color
3. Before we jump to color, priming the nails with a base polish is essential. The founders emphasize the benefits explaining "the base coat is important if you want your color to last". Before color polish, a single, thin layer of basecoat is all you need on each nail.

Color!
4. Once the basecoat has dried, it's time for color. While some polishes feature brushes that are more accommodating to the nature shape of nails, Mary and Leah's expert technique helps achieve a professional application every time. They recommend beginning with a single swipe down the middle of the nail, continuing with a follow up swipe along the sides of the nail, coating the surface fully.

Waiting Game
5. As highlighted at the start, now is not the time to rush. Waiting a solid 5 minutes before applying the second coat of color polish will help not only ensure a complete drying of the initial coat but "avoids pressure dings later," says Mary and Leah.

Non-Dominate Hands
6. With one hand down, we've all run into troubles when polishing with the non-dominate hand. Its all about polishing smart. "Make sure you anchor your hand against something like the table," says Mary and Leah. Securing your hand against something sturdy not only helps a shaky application but helps give you greater command of the brush.

Finishing Touch
7. After waiting for final coat to dry, seal the color with a top coat. While many opt for a glossy, try a fun alternative. "Consider a matte finish just to mix it up," says Mary and Leah.

Valentine's Day Manicures with JINsoon

JINsoon "Sweetheart Stripes" Manicure | Valentine's Day 2019
Breakdown Below

Valentine's Day is one holiday you can indulge in all the darling heart motifs along with red and pink toned everything. Incorporating these joyful tones and designs into our beauty routine can spark fun results. When it comes to nail art, the creative designs one can create inspired by this love-centric holiday is endless and no one does is it better than nail guru and leading influential nail artist Jin Soon Choi.

Creatively remastering classic Valentine's Day themes and imagery, Jin Soon has created two unique and ultra-darling nail designs that are sure to dazzle. The first is a dialed up take on the iconic shades of the holiday whereas the second design is a take on the iconic conversation candy hearts we all adore on V Day in a modern color palette. Using her own incredible polish range, here's how you can create these looks:

Look 1 -- Sweetheart Stripes

Step 1 - The key to creating a perfect manicure is to be sure you have clean polish-free nails and no signs of any left over residue that may linger after polish removal. Once clean, cut, buffed and shaped to your desired length and shape, you're ready for polish.

Step 2 - Once nails are sufficiently prepped, its time to prime the nails. Apply a single layer JINsoon Power Coat to the the nails. This base coat not only protects the nails from additional coats of polish but allows the following products to adhere to the nails in a more even and smooth fashion.

Step 3 - Now it's time for color. For the base shade, apply two coats of JINsoon Doux, a sweet powder pink shade, to the nails. Allow to dry a bit before moving on to design.

Step 4 - To start this chic striped design, you'll begin with JINsoon Aero. Using a striping brush, dip into Aero and neatly draw a single in the center of the nail from cuticle to tip. This will be a marker and foundation of lined design.

Step 5- Once that is done, the curved lines will be created next. Before moving onto the next shade, clean the striping brush with polish remover and gently remove the excess onto a paper towel. Using JINsoon Hope, a creamscile orange, create a curved line to the left of the center line in the same direction as the previous line.

Step 6 - Simply repeat the previous step on the right side of the center line but this time use JINsoon Love, a sophisticated bold pink.

Step 7 - Allow the design to set a moment. Once set, seal in the look by layering a coat of JINsoon Top Gloss to the nails. This final sealing touch locks in the design while giving it a professional, lustrous finish.

Look 2 -- Candy Hearts

Step 1 - Removing all traces of old polish is a must before any any manicure. Hydrate the cuticles, cut and/or shape the nails to your liking prior to any polish application.

Step 2- Once nails are prepped, prime the nails with a single coating of JINsoon Power Coat. This brilliant base coats the nails in a protective base, filling in any ridges that may be present on the nails and creates a clean  and fortified base ready for color.

Step 3 - For the foundation color, use JINsoon Doux, a pale pink tone. Apply two event coats to each nail and allowing a moment to set in between applications to avoid streaks or uneven spots.

Step 4 & 5 - Once the foundation polish sets, these two steps will detail how to create the curved heart shape design. To begin painting the left side of the heart, use JINsoon Aero and create a curved shape half way down the nail. Continue on the next nails with shades JINsoon Hope and JINsoon Love.  Once complete, the same curved method will be done on the right side of the nail, making sure to overlap the previously created curve. Only this time, you'll use JINSoon Spriffy on each nail to create the mixed sweetheart candy heart look.

Step 6 - Allow the design to set a moment before sealing the look with a coat of JINsoon Top Gloss
The finally look will be ultra-glossy, chic multi-toned candy heart-inspired tips.

Spring Manicures with Morgan Taylor

MORGAN TAYLOR PROFESSIONAL NAIL LACQUERS
All White Now | Heaven Sent | In The Nude | One & Only | Beach Babe

Spring has finally arrived and I'm so ready to take a break from those dark, moody polishes of winter. The light and bright shift of the seasons has me itching to lighten up my manicures and opt for more creamy blush and nude-toned nail lacquers. A forever classic and polished look (and Kate Middleton favorite!), light-colored manicures pair well with all ensembles and are very forgiving when inevitable chips occur. With the royal wedding just a little over a month away (May 19th!), I thought I'd highlight a few pale polishes I'm currently loving from Morgan Taylor.

Before I get right to my favorites, I must share why I can't get enough of this awesome nail brand. While their nail lacquers are toxin-free (formaldehyde, touluene, DBP ), it's their exceptional quality of pigments (major color payoff!) that brings me back to this range time and time again. Whether you're looking for metallics, iridescent finishes, cremes or intense opaque tones, Morgan Taylor's impressive collection of colors does not disappoint. Best of all, MT polishes all deliver an even, smooth coating of polish with every sweep of the brush. Speaking of brushes, each polish is equipped with a great wider cut brush which makes application a breeze.

I've also found that most polishes become thick and sticky with continued use which thankfully does not happen with these high quality lacquers. By the end of the bottle, the formula, consistency of color and fluidity remain exactly as a fresh bottle -- simply excellent.

Now to The Colors --
While I love a nice opaque pale pink or creamy beige, Morgan Taylor's silky sheer polishes are some of my favorites. These luxe sheer colors deliver a hint of color that can easily be intensified with additional coats without the dreaded, uneven streaking. Two coats are sufficient for a beautiful flush of color and my current favorites include a creamy ivory (Heaven Sent), a pale ecru/nude (In The Nude), and a ladylike light cafe pink (One and Only). As a fun alternative to the common pale whites and pinks, I had to add Beach Babe to my updated lights collection. This pale peachy creamsicle polish has a subtle iridescence swirled throughout which is just stunning and feels extra fancy every time I wear it.

With the sun shinning (and even when the April showers hit), treat yourself to manicure with one of Morgan Taylor's stunning polishes, your nails will thank you.

Spring Nails with JINsoon

Tuesday, April 12, 2016

It's always exciting when Jin Soon Choi creates a new nail look for an upcoming holiday or season. We've seen this extraordinary nail guru's designs range from sleek geometric-inspired creations to colorful contrasts and everything cool in-between. This season was no different. Creating a look initially for St. Patrick's Day, this very fun nail design is one I'd love to wear anytime this spring. Featuring a rich green floral design against a beautiful neutral tone, here's how you can recreate this nail style yourself:

GREEN CLOVER NAILS

Step 1: Always start with clean, polish-free, oil-free nails. Trim and shape to your particular liking and paint nails in a coat of JINsoon Power Coat.

Step 2: Once base coat is dried, apply two even layers of JINsoon Doux polish.

Step 3: Assure nails are dry prior to starting  the clover design. Taking a clean stripping brush, saturate the tip of the brush with JINsoon Tila and create an outline of the clover shape, varying its position with each nail.

Step 4: Once the shape is created, neatly fill in each clover design with the same tool and polish (JINsoon Tila).

Step 5: For a final step, coat nails in a layer of JINsoon Top Gloss for a glossy and professional finish.

LDW Manicure with JINsoon

Saturday, September 5, 2015

Grab your fruity iced beverages (preferably dressed with a little umbrella) and get excited because you're headed for a long lovely holiday weekend. While this weekend marks the official end to summer, you can still liven up the mood with some manicure cheer.

My favorite nail guru, Jin Soon Choi, has created a simple summer manicure featuring a sleek white design with blue and red stripes. This look can easily be achieved on nails of any length and requires no intricate skill or wildly advanced tools (and gives nails a bit of a preppy touch.)

Here's how you can recreate this summer look yourself:

STEP 1 -- As always start with clean polish-free nails. Trim and shape to your liking and apply a base coat of JINsoon Power Coat. A prime base, much like JINsoon, helps coat any ridges or roughness the nail may have and allows colored polish to bond to the nail in a more lasting fashion.

STEP 2 -- For that sleek inverted triangle look, take a striping brush, swipe a bit of JINsoon Doux and draw a V shape tapering in towards the base of the nail (stopping a little before the cuticle). If you have a bit of trouble creating full lines free hand, you can create small dots starting with the end point. Once you've comfortably created a dotted outline, connect each and saturate the shape with Doux.

STEP 3 -- Once completely dried, you can begin painting on the striped designed. Use a clean striping brush and create interchanging lines of blue (JINsoon Cool Blue) and Red (JINsoon Coquette) neatly upon the white design. To save time and trouble, create all the lines of a single color first and go back with the second and final shade in this design.

STEP 4 -- For that clean professional touch, apply a high-shine top coat to nails. JINsoon Top Gloss not only gives nails a super glossy look and locks in the look for longer wear. Please be sure the design has fully dried before you layer a single application of top coat. Applying too early will smear the lines you've worked so hard to create, which is a MAJOR bummer.

Hope you guys try out this festive look this weekend and remember, that silly rule of sporting white after labor day is lie. Wear it as much as you like :)
(But , I must say, white jeans do look completely out of place in the fall!)

Have a great & safe holiday weekend friends.
For all you sweet souls waiting on the transplant list, may you get lucky this weekend and find your perfect organ matches!
