Valentine's Day Beauty Inspired By Pantone's 2019 Color of the Year
Thursday, February 14, 2019
While most imagine a classic V Day look to be created around a bold red pout, I wanted to do something a bit different this year. Inspired by Living Coral, Pantone's 2019 color of the year, I wanted this Valentine's look to be fresh and bright with the same romantic tones you'd expect from a classic look.
This look, which will feature soft coral tones and sultry tones on the eyes, is all about soft romantic tones, flawless skin and poppy coral lip. Using these key products, here's how I'm reimagining the Valentine's Day makeup:
Skin
The key to achieving a flawless base is amply treating it with proper skincare. Prior to applying any foundation or concealing products, richly hydrating the skin is a must. For this look, I wanted to amp up the skin itself to create a perfect canvas for color and chose, Pixi Rose Caviar Essence, an ultra-light hydrating serum. This antioxidant-rich wonder product acts as a blurring product and primer in one which brightens the skin while its botanical-based formulation gives the skin an added boost of radiance.
Eyes
Sultry, muted hues would beautifully complement the coral tones of this beauty look. Arbone's recent launch of their It's All In The Eyes Eyeshadow Palette in Volume 1 is the perfect palette housing an array of earthy shadows for this makeup.
Starting with the lightest shade, Fog, use a fluffy flat brush to highlight the brow brown. Then, with a clean flat medium-sized brush, saturate the lid in Amber. Using a tapered-tip brush, Softly blend clove into the outer corner and gradually bring the color into the crease. To brighten the inner corner of the eyes, use a pencil brush and apply Desert onto the tear ducts.
To line the eyes, use a fine angled brush and blend Cypress tightly along the upper lash line. Finally, to define the lower lash line, lightly apply Amber along the lower lash line using a flat liner brush.

Lashes
Lush, flirty lashes are must for this look and achieving it is easier than you think. Choosing the right mascara is crucial as the formula and brush have the power to take your lashes from limp to fluttery. A personal favorite and instant lash booster, Lancome Monsieur Big is one of the greatest products to achieve that full, voluminous look with a few coats. Best of all, this iconic mascara, which lives up to its name, comes in limited-edition Valentine's Day heart packaging making it an instant gift for yourself or your favorite girl friend.

Cheeks
To illustrate the beautiful Living Coral shade, colored blush is to be applied to cheeks. Using a small blush brush, delicately swipe Jill Stuart Mix Blush Compact in Orange Pinks and blend onto the cheeks, making sure to softly diffuse the product up and outwards.
Lips
The focal point of this look is the lips To find the perfect shade mimicking Living Coral, I turned to Clarins newest Joli Rouge lipstick range. The ultra-nourishing, creamy lipsticks, which are formulated to last without drying out the lips are a perfect pick for this love-centric holiday. This stunning range is offered in three finishes- satin (Joli Rouge), shiny (Joli Rouge Brilliant), matte (Joli Rouge Velvet) - and made to fit your unique needs. After browsing the richy-hued collection, I found 711 Papaya to the perfect bold coral hue to top off this Living oral inspired beauty look.

Get The Look: Adriana Lima's Glamorous Beauty Look Using Maybelline
Tuesday, April 3, 2018
Celebrity: Adrianna Lima
Makeup Artist: Patrick Ta
Brand: Maybelline
The perfect complement to her dramatic and ultra-glamorous Alberta Ferretti gown, Adriana’s makeup look to the Vanity Fair Oscars Party was the epitome of Hollywood Glamour. Celebrity Makeup Artist Patrick Ta created a striking beauty look for the Maybelline New York Spokesmodel that was centered on a stunningly vibrant red pout. Here’s how he created this stunning look:
SKIN: As with all glamorous makeup applications, starting with a clean face is essential. The initial step in prepping the skin was to provide ample hydration with facial oil. Opting for a hydrating oil rather than a cream gave Adriana’s skin a subtle luminous finish while instantly reviving the complexion and creating an even base. To increase the radiance of her skin, Patrick followed with Gigi Hadid x Maybelline East Coast Glam Liquid Strobe, concentrating it on the high points of her face to give it a flawless, dimensional look.
FACE: Moving onto coverage, Patrick wanted Adriana’s skin to look healthy and youthful and didn’t want to diminish the glow with a heavy foundation. Using Gigi Hadid x Maybelline West Coast Glow Tinted Primer, a lighter and fresh alternative to a full-coverage foundation, he applied the tinted base onto her skin. To sculpt the face and provide chic definition, Patrick used Maybelline New York Master Contour Face Contouring Kit to define the cheekbones, enhance the jawline and slim the bridge of the nose with a fluffy angle brush. For a flush of color, Maybelline New York Fit Me Blush in 'Mauve” was applied to the apples of the cheeks with the same brush and diffused into the contour. To frame the cheeks, and the high points of her face, Patrick lightly dusted Maybelline New York Master Chrome Highlighter in 'Molten Gold,' along the tops of her cheekbones, and down the bridge of her nose. To brighten up the eyes, highlighter was also applied to the inner corner of her eyes.
EYES: Using the Maybelline New York Total Temptation Palette, three key shades were used to create her elegant eye look. First, Patrick blended the medium-brown shade into the crease and blended the shade upwards to brow bone. The same medium shadow was buffed onto the lower lash for a soft smoky look. Using a clean fluffy brush, he went over the freshly applied shadow to soften the look. He then saturated the eyelids with the iridescent pink champagne shade with a clean flat brush. Lastly, the inner corners of her eyes were further brightened by layering the lightest shade of the palette onto the highlighter that was previously applied. Patrick framed the look by coating her beautiful lashes in a few layers of Maybelline New York Total Temptation Mascara. To ensure Adriana’s brows were flawless, any sparse spots were filled with Maybelline New York Eye Studio Brow Define + Fill Duo and set the desired shape with Maybelline New York Brow Drama Sculpting Brow Mascara.
LIPS: The striking focal point of the look was a perfectly bold red pout. Adriana’s luxurious red lip was achieved by using Maybelline New York Python Metallic Lip Kit in 'Passionate,' a stunning duo of lip color and metallic lipshadow. Patrick began by meticulously layering her lips with the poppy red lip color from the palette. To intensify the color and add a touch of dimension to the lip, he applied the rose gold lipshadow atop the red lip product resulting in a subtle sheen that further highlighted the bold look.

How To Create The Perfect Winged Liner
Tuesday, September 5, 2017
The perfect element to a glamorous makeup look, winged eyeliner has always been a beautiful way to elongate and frame the eyes. Whether pairing with a classic red lip or creating a sultry dramatic eye (think Arabic-style eye makeup), this lovely liner isn't the easiest of styles to master.
Often times requiring lots of practice, winged eyeliner becomes easier with time. I've learned that it's all about hand placement, how you hold the brush or liner and the pressure of application. A heavy hand will result in a messy application -- an undesirable look that leads to that dreaded raccoon-eyed smudge. Read on for the different types of liners you can use to achieve this chic swoosh and food-proof tips for getting it right every time.
Pencil
The classic eyeliner we all overused during our JHS/HS years, a pencil liner is like an old friend that won't let you down. Designed to give you control, yet soft enough to smudge into a smokey look, a pencil liner is forgiving during clean up. While layering will give you a darker shade, pencils will never provide that slick, super dark flick of liner you'd get with alternative products. (Remember to always sharpen the tip when creating a winged look).
To some, a liquid liner is the easiest way to create a wing. Wet, quick and inky, these thin brushed liners allow you to get that sharp look with a simple flick of the wrist. However, while easy, liquid liners aren't the best for long wear as they tend to smear by end of day and breakdown in ultra hot weather. Be sure to have it on hand for reapplication and cosmetic cotton buds for quick cleanup.
Felt-tip
Personally, I find these type of liners the best for achieving this look. Unlike liquid liners, felt-tips provide more control and less chances to mess up as there isn't any drying time. The sharp tip not only allows for a clean wing, but provides swift application without much effort.
You'll need a slanted or thin liner brush to use these liners. Best for extended wear and sometimes waterproof, gel and clay formulas allow you to paint on a wing with ultimate precision. The smooth texture helps glide on product along the lash line and pull a wing without dragging. With use, product can dry out and require more work to get it on. However, mixing in a drop of makeup remover will revive a dry pot of liner and bring it back to its smooth consistency. Though each product varies, an additional layer may be needed to increase the intensity of color.
TIPS FOR THE PERFECT LINER APPLICATION
Powder to Product
I always suggest mapping out your desired shape using a thin, slanted liner brush and dark eye shadow prior to liner. Not only is shadow more forgiving if mistakes occur but light strokes help create a perfectly shaped foundation. Once you've reached your perfect wing, use your preferred liner and apply over your shadowed shape. (Using shadow and a liner brush is also great for practice. Getting a feel for the brush and the angles of your unique eyes is essential in getting a great wing every time)
Connect the Dots
Using your preferred product, apply five dots along the upper lash line, the last dot will be where you'd like your wing to end. Slowly applying liner from dot to dot will help you create an even shape before the dramatic wing. Once you reach your fourth dot (just before the end of your lash line), pull it up to the fifth and last dot. Neatly fill the wing and go over or thicken any spots you feel need editing.
Stamp
A method best used with inky products (liquid, felt, gel), use the entire tip of your liner as a stamp along the lash line. Holding the brush or liner at an angle, lightly tap it as close to the lashes and follow through to the end. Once lined, softly drag the tip over any missing spots. To create the wing, re-angle the tip at the end of the lash line and tap to your desired wing. Once stamped, fill the area to even the flick.
Final tip: For added balance/control, place your pinky on your cheekbone while lining your eyes. It'll stop the shaking and help you create the perfect winged liner.

The Perfect Skin Base: Prescriptives Custom Blend Foundation
Friday, December 4, 2015
Finding a perfect foundation is easily one of the toughest and most time consuming cosmetic tasks you'll ever experience. From color to formulation and every other unique concern in between, finding your ideal skin base is not as easy as it may seem.
With so many different foundations currently on the market, this dizzying pool of options becomes clearer if you understand your own specific needs. While a superstar product may be boasted by your favorite beauty youtuber or blogger, it may not be the best for you. Once you've understood your own skin, alone or with the help of a professional, you'll be closer to finding the perfect skin base that best suits you. Skin type, texture, desired coverage and finish are the main concerns one needs to take into account when shopping for a foundation.
These major concerns are the exact factors expert Prescriptives Custom Blend Beauty Geniuses (CBBG) look into when creating your unique foundation. I had the opportunity to have a digital meeting with my fabulous (and very intelligent!) CBBG, Erica. Upon providing a picture of my bare face in natural light (a crucial factor in picking up your actual skin tone/coloring), we got to chatting about my skin concerns.
I've always liked medium to full coverage foundations that aren't too heavy and provide a matte finish. While many foundations fit that very description, often times many of these tend to oxidize on me throughout the day. This leaves my face a good shade or two darker than my actual skin tone, which is terrible and looks awful. *tomato face*
If that's not troubling enough, SO many brands shy away from offering foundations with yellow undertones. I can't tell you how many lovely foundations I've tired where I needed another shade to even out the tones.
Thankfully, Erica noted every single one of my concerns and blended my perfect foundation while we chatted up foundations.
Here are some of the major noteworthy tips from our conversation:
*Oilier Skin Types: for a longer lasting and nicer overall look stick to matter finishes. Anything with sheen or a dewy finish will only further highlight the troubling aspect of your skin and will slide right off your face by end of day (or even start to breakdown within the hour)
*SPF: while a great factor to add to to foundation, this is the exact thing that is making the product oxidize
*Finding the Perfect Color: to get a true color match to your actual skin tone, swatch three colors along your jawline and neck in natural light (if possible). Erica noted that she take's all her clients at her CB counter outside to get the best look at shades. A foolproof trick that will get you the best match every time
*Application: foundation application is not just for your face. Pull it down to your neck and ears as well, especially if you're wearing your hair up. It will give you a perfect, seamless look
Anyone can walk up to a Prescriptives beauty counter and schedule a one-one-one session with a CBBG and you too can experience an eye-opening meeting that'll leave you with the perfect skin base you've been wanting for what seems like ages. Also you don't only have to be a fan of liquids, Prescriptives offers a powder in your exact shade as well.
With the holidays right around the corner, I'm sure your social calendar is filling up quickly with fun events. Now is the perfect time to walk run to your nearest department store and schedule your Custom Blend Foundation meeting with a Prescriptives CBBG. Don't have the time to head out, enjoy the digital Custom Blend experience from the comfort of your home, a PX Beauty Genius will help you find your perfect shade at a time best suited for you (please be aware of session hours).
Who wouldn't want the gift of flawless skin for the new year?
Mary-Kate And Ashley Olsen Beauty Looks
Friday, June 13, 2014
If you're a 90's girl, you pretty much grew up with Mary
Kate and Ashley Olsen. Growing up in those golden years, my friends and I idolized these two
blondes, loving everything from their perfectly tousled waves to overly glossed
lips. We all rushed to each other’s homes to watch their latest straight-to-video movies and never missed a single episode of their shows. It’s safe to say
that the Olsen sister’s were a major source of beauty and style inspiration.
Looking back now, the looks we once loved are clearly very
dated. However, as the girls (and their devoted fans!) matured, their beauty
routine appropriately followed. As an adult, I find myself looking to this stylish duo for beauty inspiration once again. Their signature wide, bright eyes are often
smoked with earthy brown shades with copper and gold under tones. As a major fan of brown and neutral shadows, it is no surprise that their effortless and
“undone” smoky looks draw me in time and time again.
In honor of their 28th birthday, I thought it was
only appropriate to round up some of my favorite brown and taupe-y eye shadows
that very Olsen-worthy.
Charlotte Tilbury – The Dolce Vita Palette
The Queen of the undone and simple smoky eye, celebrity
makeup artist Charlotte Tilbury has finally launched her dreamy cosmetic
collection in the US. While she amazingly knocked it out of the park across
the board, it is her Dolce Vita Palette that is truly extraordinary. Featuring
four shades, this universal palette is ultra-flattering and mistake proof. The
colors offered in this palette can take eyes from dull to mesmeric. Much like
those worn by the Olsen’s, the Dolce Vita palette can help you create a seductive
layered or a dimensional smoked and smudged look.
NARS Eye Shadow – California & Fez
If you’re more a simple shadow girl, I’ll have to suggest
reaching for a NARS shadows. Consisting of softly blended formulas, NARS
expertly created a smooth shadow that glides onto lids. California features
more coppery under tones whereas Fez is a soft brown with a subtle gold iridescence
blended throughout. Both of these colors look lovely on the lid and blended
along the lower lash line. For a more dramatic look, apply a chocolate liner
along the waterline and smudge along the upper lash line.

Tom Ford – Golden Minx
This luxurious palette is must-have for any brown shadow
lover. Featuring lovely neutral shades in matte, satin and shimmered finishes, this
quad has got something for every smoky eye enthusiast. A favorite on the Tom
Ford runway, this collection of shades also happens to be the perfect shades
you need to create that layered Olsen eye look. Best of all, these creamy
shades can easily be layered without looking excessive.

A Spring Manicure With Jin Soon
Wednesday, May 21, 2014
Every year, I patiently wait out the bitter NYC winter for the beautiful sights of spring. From blocks lined with blossoming cherry blossom trees to city parks filled with blooming tulips, New York City just stuns in the spring.
Tulips (and peonies!) happen to be my absolute FAVORITE flower. From plums to red and every pink peach tone in between, this elegant flower has held a special place in my heart since the elementary years. This season, Jin Soon, the ultimate nail guru and manicure maven, has created an incredibly charming manicure exclusively inspired by this beautiful flower.
This ultra-sweet manicure brings together two of my favorite colors in this simple yet chic manicure. To learn how you can recreate this floral-inspired manicure yourself, here's how:

Polish: Begin by coating nails in a single application of JINsoon Power Coat. Once dried, apply JINsoon Dolly Pink to nails.
Design: Make sure nails are dry before applying the next layer of color to avoid smudging. Take a thin nail brush and draw two thin lines 3/4 of the way up from the cuticle using JINsoon Cherry Berry. Next, neatly curve lines to each side of the nail. The tulip petals should mirror one another. Once lined, fill the area with Cherry.

5 Must Have Mascaras You Need Now
Tuesday, April 1, 2014
While mascara formulation is important, the wand is a major factor is achieving that neat full look. Also, no one said that its a crime to layer mascaras. If you're anything like me, you will find that layering mascaras (or any beauty product) can produce some really lovely results. I have detailed some mascaras that work well layered together below.
Benefit They're Real
The name and packaging was enough to reel me in but boy does this mascara deliver. Those who have used it (myself included) have surely seen a great difference in lash length with this product. Offering a plastic wand of medium fullness with tiny bristles, this mascara really separates lashes and gets every little corner lash. My only concern is that it does not add much volume or thickness. I advise using this a base mascara.

Layer options -- Benefit 'They're Real' + Too Faced 'Better Than Sex
Too Face 'Better Than Sex'
Dare I say that this mascara is better than the suggested intimate activity? (haha!)Too Face 'Better Than Sex'
This mascara is absolutely amazing. While the name is somewhat controversial, its wand is the stuff of mascara wonders. The hourglass-shaped brush is covered in closely set bristles which pushes up and evenly coats each lash upon application. Offering major volume and thickness. this mascara can be worn by its self or layered over 'They're Real' for maximum effect.
$23, sephora.com
Sephora Outrageous Volume
While the quilted packaging makes this mascara a beautiful asset to your makeup bag, its lash power is what makes it a beauty staple. Its uniform plastic wand features thin compact bristles that evenly coat lashes with a single application. Its deep black and richly formulated texture makes this one of the darkest mascaras I've tired in quite sometime. Delicate enough for those with sensitive eyes, Outrageous delivers some serious volume and length.
$15, sephora.com
Layer options -- If you want added thickness, add a coat of YSL 'Shocking' over a single coat of Outrageous Volume.
YSL Shocking
The name says it all -- this mascara holds quite the shock factor. Featuring a slightly elongated brush, this mascara really adds some drama to lashes. The ultra smooth, silky formula makes it easy to layer and gives lashes both length and thickness without looking clumpy and stiff.
$30, nordstrom.com
Givenchy Noir Couture
I saved the best for last. Much like their couture collections, Givenchy beauty continues to push the envelope. A long time fan of their Phenomen'Eyes mascara, I was over the moon when I tried Givenchy's Noir Couture mascara. All while curling and lifting, this extraordinary product features a unique triple sphere shaped wand that add intense volume to lashes. This mascara is a lash superstar as it tackles each area of fullness and improves the look and texture of lashes with extended use (lash booster expert complex). Noir Couture is my absolutely favorite product for full fluttery lashes.
