Must-Have Lip Colors For Autumn/Winter
Monday, February 7, 2022
Lipstick is one of the most versatile beauty products and has the power to transform any makeup look. A single swipe of your favorite shade can revive a tired complexion or stand beautifully on its own. Interestingly, specific tones have become synonymous with certain seasons throughout the year. Luxurious red tones are often opted for during the winter holidays whereas poppy pinks and corals are reserved for the warmer months of the year. With a dense catalog of lip colors currently offered on the market, what lipstick hues is one to use during autumn/winter? While the choices may seem overwhelming, I've minimized the confusion by refining the lot and landed on six must-have lip products both new and tried and true that need to be in your autumn/winter lip wardrobe. Read on to discover these irresistible and luxurious shades for picture-perfect seasonal lips.
MERIT // Shade Sick Tinted Lip Oil (Cara Cara)
If you're in the market for deliciously hydrating and color-packed lip product which enhances your pout, look no further than MERIT Beauty's Shade Slick Tinted Lip Oil. This highly coveted, pocket-sized wonder is formulated with grapeseed and jojoba oil which work to nourish and soften lips while providing the perfect wash of conditioning color. The shade Cara Cara is a lovely autumnal pop which not only looks great swiped on bare lips but pairs wonderfully over a similar toned lip liner.
YSL // Beauty Tatouage Couture Liquid Matte Lip Stain (16-Nude Emblem)
A lovely muted rose tone, YSL Tatouage Liquid lip in 16-Nude Emblem offers a pigmented applicated without the weight or tackiness of a traditional liquid lipstick. It's unique formula feels incredibly light on the lips and dries down to a rich matte finish. For this crisp autumn/winter season, 16-Nude Emblem is the perfect pink tone to sport as it provides a chic pop of seasonally appropriate color. Unlike the poppy pinks known to the warmer months, this terracotta toned pink creates an eye-catching look which complements the natural warm and fiery foliage hues signature to this time of year.
MAC COSMETICS // Powder Kiss Liquid Lipstick (Sorry Not Sorry)
Perhaps the best and my most reached for lip color this time of year, MAC Cosmetics Powder Kiss Liquid Lipstick in Sorry Not Sorry is a flattering pumpkin orange tone which not only wears beautifully with a variety of warm-toned eye looks but provides a long-lasting, smear-proof finish. The seasonal punctuated pop offered by this mask-approved lippie makes it a standout shade you'll want to wear well into winter.
Lisa Eldridge // Lip Velvet (Cinnabar)
An authority in the beauty industry, Lisa Eldridge has created an incredible lipstick range which is wildly loved by both beauty fans and seasoned professionals. Her most recent Lip Velvet launch includes a shade named Cinnabar, a beautifully spiced crimson ideal for autumn and the chilly months ahead. While the color itself is stunning, the formula is a dreamy matte which glides onto the lips leaving behind a richly pigmented, non-drying swipe of color.
Charlotte Tilbury // Matte Revolution (Catwalking)
Tilbury's lipsticks are some of the best I've used in recent years and her beautiful range includes an array of ultra-flattering lip colors in lovely formulations. Some of her best tones fall in the nudes category including Catwalking, a rich neutral matte lip fitting for the cooler months. A modern peachy nude with soft spicy undertones, this elegant lipstick offers a sleek finish to your A/W makeup looks without looking too summery.
Springing Forward

Sunnies: Kenneth Cole Collection | Jacket: via Bloomingdales| Earrings: Vintage
Belt: via Variazioni (old) | Dress: Eliza J
Hello sunny, floral-filled days of spring!
After one frigid winter, it's nice to finally say goodbye to the harsh days of months past.
A seasonal shift always welcomes a new beginning and I couldn't be happier to start anew.
While the low temps haven't completely abandoned my sweet city, NYC has been seeing some mild (by our standards!) days. Of course, being the dress obsessed girl that I am, a sunny, semi-warm day means bare legged style fun.
To welcome such a lovely weather change, I dug deep in my closet and pulled out one of my favorite dresses--a fun floral number by Eliza J. This brand continues to put out beautiful pieces that flatter many body types. It's rare to stumble upon a brand that can achieve that without skimping on quality and detail. This dress was my first purchase from EJ and certainly won't be my last. I recently bought a stunning embellished gold shift dress that I'm saving for a special event later this summer.
All of my colorful garments reserved for warmer weather are moving to the front of my closet this weekend and I'm pretty excited about it. Don't get me wrong, I love my chic NYC black ensembles more than the next stylish lady but about poppy colors on sunny days just work.
Along with my wardrobe, I've invited some bright tones into my beauty routine.
I've introduced some fun peachy, coral lippies into my daily mix -- NARS Audacious Lipstick (Jane) and YSL Rouge Pur Couture Lip Stain Gloss (#6).
Who knows, with all this color I may even try to wear a red lip outside my house this spring/summer.
Yeah, I wouldn't bet on it #NotReady!

The Best Red Lipsticks For Spring
Friday, May 23, 2014
With the days getting longer and the temperature starting to
warm up, it’s only appropriate to start lightening up your beauty routine. It’s
time to shelf your favorite vampy red lipsticks and start reaching for lighter and
brighter tones of red. As someone who shies away from red lippies, I (secretly) love collecting this shade and racked up quite a collection of seasonally appropriate
blends. While many sported their favorite matte blends this past winter, spring
and summer invite women to try lip options that are lighter and silkier in
texture. I’ve looked through my lovely reds and found that these two lipsticks
are a must for spring.
Of course the tube/packaging is super luxurious but the lipstick itself is a creamy blend of perfection. A true red that glides onto lips and packs an intense dose of color, YSL’s Rouge PUR Couture Lipstick in 1 Le Rouge is a must for any lipstick enthusiast. Best of all, this ultra bold red offers major color in a single swipe. A perfect red lipstick for the warmer months, this hydrating and ultra-light weight red lippie sets in a subtle satin finish.

Tom Ford Lipstick Cherry Lush
Unlike YSL, Tom Ford Lipstick in Cherry Lush is a multifaceted red lipstick with fuchsia undertones. Blended with a super subtle iridescent pearl, this rich red gives a fresh touch to a classic shade. Featuring nourishing ingredients like chamomilla flower oil, murumuru butter and soja seen extract, TF’s lipsticks are both creamy and smooth. Often with ultra-creamy formulas, product tends to slip and move around quite easily but that is not the case with TF. This richly pigmented product stays put without drying out the lips. If you’re in the market for a lustrous red, opt for Cherry Lush, as it gives lips the perfect amount of luxurious color and luminosity.

YSL Fall Collection

It's arrived and boy is it stunning.
To me fall beauty means deep colored manicures, autumnal lippies and metallic smoky shadows -- exactly what YSL delivered this season.
To me fall beauty means deep colored manicures, autumnal lippies and metallic smoky shadows -- exactly what YSL delivered this season.
Much like their fashion collections, YSL Beauty emits a sense of luxury unique to the Saint Laurent name. Clothed in their signature gold packaging, YSL has launched a collection that will leave you looking glamorous in a multitude of settings all season long. Featuring two new variations of their classic blush radiance in an irresistible shimmery peach and soft mauve with plum accents allows cheeks to be the center of attention day or night. If you desire to achieve a perfected synced look, the collection also features four new lipsticks in the Rouge Pur Couture line in complementary shades. One can remain demure and pair a lipstick in a light shade reminiscent of tangerine (51) with blush 9 or dare to be bold by pairing a deep plum lippie (54) with blush 10.
Also debuting in this seasonal collection is a duo of limited edition eye shadow palettes that will have you itching to experiment with color. The Drive Arty palette features a quad of daring greens and blues whereas the Drive Classy quad features muted neutrals of warm and cool metallics. Liners of both the liquid and pencil variety in unexpected shades will allow you to play up your eyes in a way you may have not before. The Baby Doll liner is offered in a shade that can serve as a beautiful accent shade under the waterline or tear duct of the eyes. Top it all off with YSL’s signature Shocking mascara and your eyes will be the beauty highlight of your season.
If you’d rather prefer to experiment with the latest shades of the season with manicures, YSL’s Fall nail varnish offerings are on another level. Keeping with the cool and plum tones seen throughout the collection, the three polishes in this collection translate a cool and chic tone that will keep your nails looking modern and extravagantly posh.

Seeing Red - The Perfect Holiday Pout
Friday, November 30, 2012
There's no beauty look more glamorous than the red lip. It instantly brightens up your face, looks dazzling on every skin tone and is absolutely holiday appropriate. A season welcoming sparkling glitz and frilly extras, a beautiful red pout is just the thing to tie up the classic holiday look. From satin finishes to deep, rich hues, the options to finding your ideal red are endless.
While you may find yourself under the mistletoe more than once at your holiday festivities, I do advise you to keep the kissing at a minimum when sporting this daring shade. An intense kiss may leave you and you kissing partner's mouths looking like intense, bloody crime scenes. Beware but have fun with this color and embrace the shade of the holiday.
I took the guess work out of finding the perfect red lippie and rounded up some of the newest and best around. Whether its a classic matte red, a cheeky red or a classic fiery shade -- give this festive lip a go this holiday season.
Ask and Tell's Beauty Professional Tips
*Use a lip liner in a similar hue before your choice of lippie and apply the lipstick with a small lip brush. This helps you enhance the shape of the lip and keeps it lasting much longer than a standard swipe from the tube.
*With a small concealer brush, precisely apply concealer to the corners of your top and bottom lip. This cleans up any smudges or mistakes that might of leaked on to the skin, prevents bleeding of the color and highlights a clean, perfect pout.
*If you want to intensify the color and give it some more dimension, take your favorite shadow or blusher in a similar shade and pack on the powder onto your lipstick with a small flat shadow brush. Hold a tissue under your lip as you apply to catch any fallout that may fall. You're then left with a richly colored, matte red lip. How chic!
Be bold this holiday season -- Sport your red lip in style.
